Land Rover Range Rover

The Land Rover Range Rover is the largest vehicle in this manufacturer's line-up. Big brother to the compact Freelander and the slightly smaller but full-sized comfort-oriented Discovery, the Range Rover has been described as "the most capable vehicle in the world". You name it and the Land Rover Range Rover probably has it as standard equipment.

The real Range Rover story comes when the hood is opened. This is only the third all-new Range Rover in 31 years and it has been made with more power than ever before although with a smaller, lighter and more efficient powerplant. On this one, an all-aluminum, 4.4-litre V8 BMW manufactured engine has been thoroughly modified for off-road use on a Land Rover platform and as such it is fully capable of wading through water, heavy-duty towing and negotiating steep off-road angles. A free-revving, 32-valve V8, it produces 282 horsepower at 5,400 rpm and generates 325 lbs-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm.

Mercedes Benz G500

Powered by a 292 horsepower 5.0-liter V8, the G500 can climb grades up to 36 degrees and is stable on lateral slopes up to 24 degrees. The engine is hooked to a five-speed automatic transmission. The Mercedes makes a respectable 292 hp at 5500 RPM, and 336 lbs-ft of torque at 2800 RPM.

Mercedes Benz ML350

The ML350 is as on-road smooth as it is off-road tough. But even if you never travel far off the beaten path, the combination of a powerful 3.7-litre V-6 and responsive driver-adaptive 5-speed automatic transmission offers a quick start to a getaway weekend. It is also accommodating enough for everyday duty, with a wood- trimmed, feature-rich interior that offers comfort and convenience. The Mercedes makes a respectable 232 hp at 5750 RPM, and 254 lbs-ft of torque at 3000-4500 RPM, and goes 0-100 km/h in 8.7s.
